**Saving the Planet - One Bar at a Time**

"In the United States alone, 550 million empty shampoo bottles are thrown away every year, enough to fill 1,164 football fields. This number does not include conditioner, body wash or other bathing products – only shampoo bottles."

Everyone makes New Year's resolutions each year and I am no different but this year I wanted to do something to not only help myself but to help this big blue marble we live on.

What VikingShire is dedicated to doing for 2023 is cutting down on the amount of waste that is generated by traditional bottled bath and beauty products.

I began last year by offering many varieties of bar soap, made with wholesome, natural ingredients that are not only good for your skin, but good for the environment because no synthetic detergents are sent down the shower drain to find their way into our streams and rivers. It was a start.

This year thus far, I have added solid shampoo and conditioner bars made with natural ingredients that nourish and hydrate hair, promoting health, beauty and shine to all hair types. The natural ingredients are safe for the water supply as well. As an added bonus, there is ZERO waste. They are packaged in plastic-free, biodegradable packaging and are paraben, petroleum, detergent, silicone and sulfate-free. All ingredients are natural, ethically sourced, vegan, eco-friendly and cruelty free. The only animal they have been tested on is me!

I have also opted to change the packaging of my soaps from traditional PVC shrink wrap to a wrap that is 100% recyclable.

Lip balm tubes are made in the US from recycled plastic and lotion jars can either be recycled OR returned to me and they will be cleaned, sterilized and refilled for you (at a discount as well!)

I don't claim to be an expert on conservation but I do know that things need to be done, however small they may seem, to help protect our environment. I welcome suggestions you may have for ways to further my 2023 resolution.

Wishing you all a happy, healthy New Year.

Love, Grandma Deb
